Rollo Hemphill has a history with a life-sized rubber doll he dressed up to look like glamorous Hollywood star Monica LaMonica. For a time, the doll’s worldwide travels provided convenient cover and sensational press for her living counterpart. But now, rubber-Monica has disappeared from crusty Hugo Farnsworth’s yacht in St. Tropez. Like it or (mostly) not, Rollo gets drafted as an unofficial government operative to deal with the kidnappers. The doll has become a pawn in an international game centered on an eccentric Turk who collects lookalikes – but who may have also collected state secrets, including the plans for cold fusion and a scheme for bankrupting the world’s money supply. All Rollo wants to do is get safely home to his estranged wife Felicia – who now happens to be pregnant. Is the child his? If not, will Rollo be bold enough to risk everything for a real life with a real woman? Once again, Rollo will prove that the male ego is as vulnerable as it is predictably deflatable.

How can you not love Rollo Hemphill? You might be afraid of him but you still love the guy. Even if there is the suggestion that he represents the loser that lurks inside each of us, ready to lunge, knock over the Ming vases, slip on the wine cooler still drying on the floor from last night's party, drop kick you in the face, and seal the fate on your delusions of becoming a fashion model.Gerald Everett Jones is a superb writer, both in terms of conceptualization and execution. He understands with a rare gift what an ridiculous enterprise our short visit on planet Earth is, and is able to capture with allegorical flare and a profound authenticity that we are all schmucks in the huge game of life. Some schmucks are clever, however, and their bread always lands with the buttered side up, even if they have to butter both sides to get there.
Eat, pray, love? No. Read, laugh, dream! Dream that your friends or your significant others could be 1/10th as interesting as the characters in this book.
One great thing about a book. It doesn't borrow money or drink your last beer, or use you as a punching bag to take out its insecurities and failures out on you.
"Farnsworth's Revenge" is time well spent away from the haggard torpor of pedestrian life, or if you are lucky enough to be living your dreams, inspiration which can put an absurd edge on things. Who can't use a little more absurdity?

Farnsworth Revenge A Rollo Hemphill Misadventure edition by Gerald Everett Jones Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I picked up the manuscript for Farnsworth's Revenge and could not put it down until I finished it. It is the kind of book that manages to be funny but at the same time "important" in the sense that Confederacy of Dunces was important. Rollo Hemhill, the antihero in the book who continually falls up, travels far and wide until he stumbles upon a secret of science (which I will not give away) that could bring down the economies of the entire civilized world. I look forward to his next book. Jim Anton, Muse-Press.org
Rollo Hemphill may be the most identifiable fictional character I have come across in a long time. These novels by Gerald Jones are labelled as comic misadventures but the sly and insightful way the author blends our hero's inner life with his outer life is painfully familiar. Rollo is a man whose genius has gotten him in trouble with the law, propelled him to heights of fragile power and sent him off on adventures any normal male would crave. The rubber duplicate he devised of his true love has at least as many adventures - and highly placed lovers -as any celebrity.. The fact is Rollo's inner life is considerably more logical and balanced than the reality of the world in which he trudges - with a good heart, high intentions and a startling lack of malice. These adventures may be comic but they were beautifully devised by the author who has a gift of surprising the reader with every plot twist. Comic or misadventures perhaps - but there is something very realistic about the way good and bad fortune body slams even the most simple intentions. Rollo has an thrilling and enviable life. We should all be so unlucky.
